Mobility to Malta 2022

Meeting in Malta through the eyes of Polish students

Students from Poland, Finland, Spain and France visited Saint Theresa Secondary School in Birkirkara, Malta. There were 6 groups with 2 Maltese guides. We saw labs: biology, computer, healthcare, movie and media, canteen, garden and pitch. In biology lab we watched VR films about how to be eco-friendly, later we were playing football. At the end we ate Maltese buns filled with pureed vegetables or cottage cheese, and for dessert – wafers with dates jam.

We went to Mdina city. It served as the island’s capital from antiquity to the medieval period. Today, Mdina is one of Malta’s major tourist attractions. No cars are allowed in Mdina, partly why it has earned the nickname ‘the Silent City’. The city displays an unusual mix of Norman and Baroque architecture. Our guide told us about the history of Mdina. After that, in small teams, we had to find some important places and information about them.

Overall it was an interesting trip and I hope that everyone has learned a lot.

We were in a National War Museum in Saint Elmo, a star fort in Valletta. There we made paper planes (a model of aircraft used during the II WW) and we had a guide trip around the museum. Afterwards, we strolled through the beautiful streets of Malta’s capital, admiring the views.

We saw the harbour and the wonderful two parks full of plants that were exotic to us. A unique and unforgettable place was the cathedral, where we admired the work of Caravaggio.

During our workshop on artificial intelligence, Professor Matthew Montebello from the University of Malta told us what artificial intelligence is and what it can be used for. He said that many jobs in the future will be performed by machines or robots. We talked about self-service shops which are becoming more and more popular. Finally, we entered a special page where we voted what we associate with artificial intelligence. A moment later on the screen in front of us we saw a mind map with the most frequently typed words. It turned out that we associate artificial intelligence with a robot, technology, but also with danger. The lecture was very interesting and it would have been worthwhile to continue it but there were more tasks waiting for us. This time we discussed the issue of equal rights for men and women, and had our next project Oxford debate.
